November Sports Summary

This fall three of our teams’ seasons came to a close. Water polo, golf, and field hockey all ended their great seasons. Golf narrowly missed CCS by one stroke, water polo lost in the Pacific Division finals of league, and field hockey completed their 2017 campaign.

Cross country had their league championships on November 2nd but lost, putting an end to their season and to their chances of making CCS.

The Catalina tennis team sent two doubles and two singles to the semis on November 1st. Ava Garofono ‘18 and Caroline Stewart ‘18 made it past the quarterfinals, but unfortunately ended their great run in the semifinals.

Volleyball was the # 1 seed in CCS Division 5 and went undefeated in the regular season (22-0, 71-2 as of 11/10 in a sets played this year) for the second year in a row. On Friday November 10th, the defending champions and Mt. Madonna competed in the championship match. The Cougars went on to sweep Mt. Madonna and win the CCS title, making Catalina the only school in Monterey County to ever go undefeated in volleyball through the section championships—for the second year in a row! Catalina was then seeded #1 in Division III and swept the next two teams in the State Championships, sending them straight to the championship match against Lincoln.
