New movies coming to theaters this fall and winter include Harriet, Cats, and Little Women.
Harriet comes out on November 1st. It is based on the story of Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad, an undercover network that helped fugitive slaves escape to safety in the pre-Civil War era. Actress Cynthia Erivo plays Harriet. This movie is in the drama genre and has a 62% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Critic Robert Kojder praises, “History, heroism, and leadership are the stuff of Kasi Lemmons’ rousing and heartfelt film about the life and times of Harriet Tubman, the Spartacus of the American south.”
Taylor Swift, Rebel Wilson, James Corden, and many more are all to star in the upcoming film, Cats, based on a musical written by Andrew Lloyd Webber that originally premiered in 1981. The film, a fantasy and drama with a PG rating, will be released on December 20th. Cats tells the story of a fictional setting called the Heaviside Layer. Every year, a member of the Jellicles cat tribe ascends to the Heaviside Layer, a heaven-like place where cats are reborn into a new life.
Lastly, set to come to theaters on December 25th, Little Women is an upcoming historical period drama with a PG rating. The movie is based on a novel published in 1868 by Louisa May Alcott which tells the story of the coming of age of four sisters. The film will star Emma Watson as Meg March and Meryl Streep as Aunt March.
